| Contract No: | Bridge No. 53C-1166 |
| Contract Amount: | $26,803,069 |
| Job Duration: | 04/2008 to 03/2010 |
| Agency: | City of Los Angeles |
| Agency Contact: | John Koo |
| Work Performed: | The project’s improvements include widening the viaduct approximately 26 feet to the north in order to make way for the Light Rail Transit and provide two standard 12-foot through lanes with a five-foot shoulder along the north side of the viaduct. The existing six-foot sidewalks on both sides of the viaduct will be maintained and the inside eastbound lane on the 1st Street at Mission Road will serve as a left turn pocket. Improvements will also include seismic strengthening features to meet current design standards. The viaduct’s monumental supports on the north side will be carefully removed, restored and reinstalled to fulfill current seismic requirements. At Santa Fe Avenue and Meyers Avenue, street surfaces will be lowered under the viaduct to provide a minimum vertical clearance of 15 feet. The project will also create a 16-foot wide median to accommodate crash barriers around the column and install pedestrian enhancements such as sidewalks and lighting. New street lighting and railings installed on the viaduct will be replicated to match the viaduct’s historic features. |
