NCOS Air Treatment Facility Contract Awarded to Steve P. Rados, Inc.

July 01, 2008

On Friday June 27, 2008 the Board of Public Works of the City of Los Angeles awarded a $10,111,475 construction contract to Steve P. Rados, Inc. (SPR). Identified as the North Central Outfall Sewer (NCOS) Air Treatment Facility – Work Order #SZC11286, the project was bid on February 20, 2008. The project’s scope is described as follows:

  • Demolish the existing interim odor control unit
  • Construct a two-stage Air Treatment Facility (ATF) consisting of
    • (a) a fan building
    • (b) four carbon treatment units
    • (c) one recirculation pit, and
    • (d) three biotrickling filter vessels

Essentially, this improvement will treat the foul air that emanates from a main sewer outfall that carries raw sewage from downtown Los Angeles to the Hyperion Treatment Plant. The foul air will be piped into the ATF that SPR will construct, then that air will be released into the atmosphere, clean and odor free.

The project is located along Jefferson Boulevard in Baldwin Village, and is scheduled to be completed within 810 calendar days. Steve P. Rados, Inc. anticipates mobilizing on site by about August 1, 2008.
